Muslims in Tral perform last rites of an elderly Kashmiri Pandit

At a time when the entire nation is battling against the pandemic coronavirus, people from Tral area of South Kashmir displaying unity and integrity came together to help perform the last rites of an elderly Kashmiri Pandit on Saturday. Muslim neighbours of the deceased not only arranged for the cremation but also performed the last rites of the Kashmiri Pandit supporting the family on his demise amid the deadly COVID-19 virus outbreak.
 
 
 
 
In an exemplary move, the Muslim neighbourhood in south Kashmir’s Tral on Saturday helped perform the last rites of a 95-year-old Kashmiri Pandit Jagan Nath Bhat. Jagar Nath Bhat, a resident of Buchoo Tral village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district died on Saturday at his native village. According to details, as soon as the news of his demise broke, members of the Muslim community came ahead together to help in performing his last rites.

In early 90s when the terror and violence took over the Valley, the Pandit community was forced to leave their homes in the Valley and move to other parts of the country while only a few of them stayed back and are thus living in their native places.
 
 
 
The 95 yr old deceased, Jagar Nath Bhat had retired as an auditor in Cooperative Department and is survived by a son and three daughters. To attend his final rites, people gathered in large numbers in the sub-district to visit the home of the deceased and express condolences with the family.
