Pakistan PM Imran Khan during his virtual address on Friday at the United National General Assembly (UNGA) propelled lies along COVID and NRC lines and cried foul once again over J&K criticising the Indian government. Repeating his claims about India's revocation of Art 370 and 35A and terming them illegal, Imran passed bigotry comments on the RSS and India's new domicile law for Kashmir terming it a 'war crime', however as Khan began his speech Indian delegate Mijito Vinito walked out of the hall in New York.
Mijito Vinito, First Secretary of India’s Mission to the United Nations tore into Pakistan for spreading misinformation, warmongering & malice at UNGA in its Right to Reply once all the country speeches in the high-level debate of UNGA’s 7th session were concluded. Vinito slammed Imran saying, “the UT of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India. The rules and legislation brought in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir are strictly internal affairs of India”.
Vinito bashed Imran Khan saying he is the same person who referred to the terrorist Osama Bin Laden as a ‘Martyr’ in his Parliament in July. He added, “this hall heard the incessant rant of someone who had nothing to show for himself, who had no achievements to speak of, and no reasonable suggestion to offer to the world. Instead, we saw lies, misinformation, warmongering, and malice spread through this Assembly. The words used today at this great Assembly by the leader of Pakistan demean the very essence of the United Nations,” he said in strong words.
“Pakistan shameless enough not to offer a sincere apology…”, says Indian delegate Mijito Vinito
After Khan’s UN address, TS Tirumurti, India’s permanent representative to the UN took to his social media handle hinting towards India would use its “Right to Reply” to respond to Pakistan. His tweet read, “PM of Pakistan statement a new diplomatic low – at 75th UN General Assembly. Another litany of vicious falsehood, personal attacks, war mongering and obfuscation of Pakistan’s persecution of its own minorities & of its cross-border terrorism. Befitting Right of Reply awaits.”
And India surely not only exercised its right well but also utilized it to shut Pakistan PM Imran Khan like a boss. In his remarks, Vinito pointing at Pakistan’s goof-ups also added, “This is the country that brought genocide to South Asia 39 years ago when it killed its own people. This is also the country that is shameless enough not to offer a sincere apology for the horrors it perpetrated even after so many years. This is the same country that provides pensions for dreaded and listed terrorists out of State funds. This is the same country that has the dubious distinction of hosting the largest number of terrorists proscribed by the United Nations,” Vinito blasted Pakistan furiously.
He also asked if Imran Khan was referring to himself while urging for people who incite violence and hate to be outlawed and said that “the Pakistan PM is the same leader who spewed venom today but admitted in 2019 in public in the US that his country still has about 30,000-40,000 terrorists who have been trained by Pakistan and have fought in Afghanistan and in Indian UT of Jammu and Kashmir", Mijito added.
UNGA's virtual assembly
This year, for the first time in the UN’s 75-year history, Heads of State and Government will not be travelling to New York for the General Assembly session due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The General Debate, that runs from Sept 22 to 29, will see 119 Heads of State and 54 Heads of Government speak via pre-recorded video statements for the various summits and sessions that will be played in the iconic General Assembly hall.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the UNGA on Saturday at 6:30 PM. PMO tweeted last evening, confirming his scheduled speech for today. PM Modi is scheduled as the first speaker before noon, and his speech will be aired at 9 am local time (New York) - 6:30 pm in India.
Some of the priority issues for India at the ongoing 75th session of UN General Assembly will be to push for strengthening global action against terrorism, sources told news agency Press Trust of India.
