As a tribute to the martyred soldiers of the Indian Army and police force, several Government schools in Jammu Kashmir are soon going to be named after those brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty fighting for the nation. After the UT administration asked local authorities to form a committee at the district level and share the details, former BJP MLC Ajay Bharti wrote to the education department of J&K Govt., enlisting the names of few of such martyrs from Kashmir valley.

Here’s the complete Letter:

Namaskar,

This is with reference to the subject cited above that is naming of Schools after Martyrs. In this regard I wish to submit the following are the few names from a long list of Martyrs who sacrificed their lives in action for the nation fighting terrorists. They belong to different districts of Kashmir province and have done most part of their schooling in Kashmir only before their forced Displacement in 1989-90. There is a long list of officers from security setup who were target-Killed while on duty like Police Inspector Sh. Chuni Lal Shalla from Baramulla, and sh. Krishan Gopal, sh. ML Bhan and sh.TK Razdan from the Intelligence Bureau. I think a humble beginning can be made by considering after whom schools of their native places can be named.

The names are:

1. Major Sushil Aima, Kirti Chakra, a first-generation soldier, was born on July 15, 1966, at Srinagar. Major Sushil Aima of 148 Light AD Regiment, while serving in the 17 RR, led 'Operation Sushil' in Kopra village of Jammu & Kashmir's Poonch district on August 1, 1999 and sacrificed his life in this encounter.

2. Captain Sameer Bhan of 11 Jat Regiment laid down his life in an IED blast while rescuing polling officials and injured officials of the India Reserve Battalion at Imphal in 2002. Despite being severely wounded, he carried on the operation that prevented further loss of life.

3. Capt Amit Koul who sacrificed his life in Kargil Sector on 27th October 1998 just few months before official Kargil war period. He hailed from Shopian in Kashmir and after Displacement in Muthi Jammu. In Kargil his posting was to keep Srinagar Leh Highway secure from continuous Pakistani Shelling. He attained martyrdom in very first posting.

4. SI Ravi Fotedar sacrificed his life in the line of Duty on 20th August 2002. He attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists in Kupwara forests. Ravi Fotedar was awarded the prestigious President’s police medal for his bravery.

5. Martyr SGCT Deepak Thusoo attained martyrdom while fighting with terrorists in the fierce encounter at Halmatpora in Kupwara. 22-03-2018.

The martyr Deepak Thussoo hailed from Kupwara and is survived by an aged mother, wife, minor children about 12 years son and about 7 years daughter and an unmarried sister. He lived in Jagati Township.

6. JCO Dileep Trakroo of 12 Dogra Regiment martyred in Siachin in 2006.

7. Commando Suraj Bhan of SOG JKP martyred in a fierce encounter in Ganderbal on 17-18th February 2010.
Thank you and warm Regards
=======================
The significant move of re-naming the government schools of the UT after the martyred police, army, and CRPF officers is in progress. As per the instructions from the J&K administration, a committee has been formed by the local authorities to prepare and put up all the details of such schools. Here is the list of Shopian district where Schools have been renamed after not only martyrs but ‘great personalities’ from other fields too.

In the order issued in the beginning of the month, the administration had asked the local authorities to form a committee at the district level to prepare such details after due verification. As per the official guidelines, SSP, ADC, DPO or AC Panchayat and representatives from Army can be included in the committee to finalize the list.
