Sunjuwan terrorist attack case

Horrifying Fidayeen terrorist attack case at Sunjuwan on 22 April has been handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA). NIA will take over all the documents and case diaries related to the Fidayeen attack.

NIA chief Kuldeep Singh had visited the encounter site on Saturday, day after the Fidayeen attack in which one CISF officer attained martyrdom and nine security personnel got injured. Two Fidayeen terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammad were killed by the security personnel in the gunfight. Singh, who is also the director-general of the Central Reserve Police Force, was briefed about the gun battle by CRPF officers. After receiving the briefing about the encounter Singh said, “It was a major attack which was thwarted (by security forces).”

Director-General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh had said the two terrorists were part of a suicide squad of Pakistan-based JeM and their infiltration was a "big conspiracy" to sabotage the prime minister's visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

Though, the anti-terror agency has already been investigating many terror related cases in Jammu & Kashmir including 2020 Nagrota terrorist attack in which four freshly infiltrated Pakistani JeM terrorists were killed and Pulwama Fidayeen attack in which 40 CRPF personnel lost their lives in the service of nation.

Three persons have been arrested in Sunjuwan Fidayeen attack:-

Police have arrested three persons so far involved in transporting and arranging the stay of the terrorists. Police arrested a truck driver who had reportedly picked up both the Pakistani terrorists from the International Border and dropped them in Sunjwan.

Reports said that driver Bilal Ahmad Wagay son of Khursheed Ahmad Wagay, a resident of Kokernag in South Kashmir's Anantnag along with his helper Ishfaq Chopan of Kokernag area had picked up terrorists from the border village of Supwal in Samba district and dropped them at Sunjwan where they carried out a terror attack on wee hours of Friday. Shafiq Ahmed Sheikh of Tral who had received the terrorists and also arranged their stay at a house in that area for day where they stayed and also discussed their plans with their handlers across the border has also been arrested along with other two of his accompalices.

According to the ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh, Sheikh and his brother Asif are deeply involved with terrorists of JeM. "Asif created a telegram ID called Pagal Jamaat' (Mad group) for Sheikh and also provided him with a mobile phone with a SIM card which was used to establish contact with a JeM commander in Pakistan by the name of Veer', his telegram identity, Singh said

Worth mentioning here that Shafiq Ahmed Sheikh of Tral who arranged the stay of the terrorists, works at a walnut factory at Sunjwan in Jammu. The place where Sheikh used to stay was owned by Iqbal Ahmad, originally a resident of Damhal Hanji Pora, in Jammu’s Jalalabad. He too has been arrested. One thing is worth mentioning that terrorism can't harbour without local support. Earlier also in February 2018, Sunjwan Military Station was attacked by JeM terrorists in army uniforms which claimed seven lives and left more than 20 injured. The recent attack was also near the same Sunjwan Military Station but timely intervention of the agencies averted it in a big way. Terror sympathisers could b anywhere but what we see can't b avoided for the sake of good. Back to back attacks at Sunjwan close to Military Station couldn't have been possible without the local support. Agencies at the service of nation are doing what they must but some special focus needs to b laid on the activities on such elements who to say are white collared citizens but in fact are terror sympathisers who migrate from place to place to find an opportunity to terrorise the atmosphere.
