Union Government launches 'Agnipath' recruitment scheme for the armed forces

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched 'Agnipath' recruitment scheme for the youth of the country to get inducted into Army, Navy and the Air Force.
 
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh while addressing the scheme along with three services chiefs including Army Chief General Manoj Pande, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, and Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, said that the scheme will grant Indian youth an opportunity to serve in the armed forces as 'Agniveer'.
 
Singh said that under the 'Agnipath' scheme, efforts are on to create a youthful profile of the Armed forces. It would help to train them for new technologies & also improve their health levels. This scheme will increase employment opportunities with new skills in different sectors.
 
 
 
The revolutionary changes in the recruitment process will see the induction of the soldiers initially for a period of four years and some of them would be retained. The Agnipath Recruitment Scheme has been designed to induct more troops for shorter-term tenures. It is being implemented by the Department of Military Affairs.
 
 
 
 
After completion of 4 years, about 80% of soldiers would be relieved from duty and would also be assisted by the Armed Forces in getting further employment. The best among the lot would also be allowed & encouarged to continue their service, if vacancies are available.
 
Army Chief General Manoj Pande said that the Agnipath scheme will help ensure optimum balance between youth and experience in Army.
