July 13, 1989 marks the beginning of first ever organised terrorist attack on paramilitary forces in Kashmir in which three CRPF personnel were killed.

In the mid of 1989, the assassinations of security personnel and political corroborators by the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF)was intensified. In late 1989, Dr Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of the then Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, was kidnapped and the release of some terrorists was demanded.

The government succumbed to pressure, and the terrorists were released. This incident gave a new confidence to the terrorists and an enormous impetus to the their endeavours. The Union government in 1989, appointed Jagmohan as governor of the State.

Later, Pakistan's ISI facilitated the formation and promotion of various other terrorist groups. They started targeting the minority community by selectively killing the Hindu Kashmiri Pandits and gave them a choice to convert to Islam or to leave the Valley.

This led to exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir Valley to other parts of India. More than five lakh Hindu Kashmiri Pandits made to leave their homes at gunpoint and hundreds were murdered. Law and order condition was totally collapsed as no body could save the condition from deteriorating futher. This all was done for the complete Islamistaion of Kashmir valley.

Ever since, lakhs of people have lost their lives in the hands of terrorists including civilians and people of armed forces. Even though thousands of terrorists have been gunned down by the security agencies in anti-terror operations during all these years but still they exist with Pakistan's active support till date.
