Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday attached the house of fugitive terrorist Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, aka Latram, in the Nowhatta area of Srinagar. Zargar along with two other terrorists was released in exchange of hostages of the hijacked Indian Airlines Plane in Afghan city of Kandhar in 1999. He is reportedly living in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Latram shot to fame in 1989 for his role in the abduction of Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of the then Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

The notice of attachment was posted on his home by the police personnel. The building, located on a plot measuring 540 square feet, was attached under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, on orders from the Union Home Ministry.

He made it to the headlines when he alongwith Jaish-e-Muhammad chief Masood Azhar and Harkatul chief Omar Saeed Sheikh, was released in exchange of hostages of the hijacked Indian Airlines plane in the Afghan city of Kandhar in 1999.

Pertinently, Latram was designated a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in April 2022 by a Home Ministry notification which enabled the security agencies to seize his property.
