For the first time since the terrorism has erupted in J&K, the number of local terrorists in Kashmir valley has come down to 28. It will reduce further, said Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar on Sunday.

ADGP added that to ensure full-proof security to the Amarnath yatra, drone and mine-proof vehicles will be used as more pilgrims than last year are expected to pay obeisance at the holy cave of Shri Amarnath ji this year.

"Full-proof security will be provided to Amarnath yatra like last year. Drones and mine-proof vehicles will be used. I am confident that by the time of yatra, the number of terrorists here will be reduced, he added.

Prior to 1990, the pilgrimage was very exclusive and available to only sadhus and saints to visit. In 1995, the pilgrimage was held for 20 days. From 2004 to 2009, its duration was increased to two months. The pilgrimage now lasts for 40 to 45 days between July and August.

It is also to be mentioned here that G20 meetings will be held in Kashmir valley in the month of May and keeping that in mind, security has been beefed up. Pakistan is raising objections against it by friendly countries like China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia but India’s permanent representative to UN Ruchira Kamboj has clarified that India’s decision is to go ahead with scheduled gathering.

India’s representative to the UN stated that India will hold 56 meetings at various locations from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. G20 meetings will be held in 28 states and 8 UT’s, including Arunachal Pradesh. By bringing the representatives of the world countries, we can once again prove to the world that Kashmir is inevitable part of India.
