Kamal Kant Batra, mother of Kargil War Hero and Param Vir Chakra recipient Captain Vikram Batra, died at Palampur in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. She was 77.
 
 
 
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his condolences on X.
 
"Sad news was received about the demise of Mrs. Kamalkant Batra, mother of martyr Captain Vikram Batra. We pray to God to grant Mata Ji a place at His feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear the immense sorrow,".
 
 
Vikram Batra, also known as "Sher Shah" among his comrades, was a courageous and valiant soldier in the Indian Army. Born on September 9, 1974, in Himachal Pradesh, India, he had an indomitable spirit and a passion for serving his country. During the Kargil War in 1999, Vikram Batra displayed exceptional bravery and leadership in capturing strategic enemy positions. His famous words, "Yeh Dil Maange More", became a symbol of his determination and fearlessness. Tragically, he made the ultimate sacrifice for his nation on July 7, 1999, while rescuing a fellow officer. He was posthumously awarded India’s highest military decoration, the Param Vir Chakra.
