Officials report that Mian Qayoom, the former president of the Kashmir High Court Bar Association, has been arrested for conspiring in the 2020 murder of advocate Babar Qadri.
Qadri was killed at his home in Srinagar by two Lashkar terrorists who posed as his clients.
A team from the State Investigation Agency (SIA) of J&K made the arrest today in connection with FIR no. 62 of 2020, which is currently under investigation by the SIA. Mian Qayoom is now in custody and is being further questioned.
In August 2021, a special unit established by the J&K police brought charges against five suspects. The following month, security forces eliminated terrorist Abbas Sheikh, the chief commander of The Resistance Front (TRF), a covert wing of LeT, along with his deputy Saqib Manzoor. At that time, the Kashmir Police revealed that Saqib Manzoor was also implicated in Qadri’s murder.
In 2022, the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted raids at the homes of three lawyers, including Qayoom, in relation to the murder of Qadri. In September 2023, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) offered a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the killing of senior J&K High Court advocate Babar Qadri.
