Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, has approached the Supreme Court seeking his immediate release. Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) and shifted to Jodhpur Central Jail in Rajasthan for allegedly inciting violent protests in Ladakh.
Wangchuk was booked under the NSA following the September 24 violence in Leh, where four people were killed and over 80 injured.
Meanwhile, the Leh administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The inquiry, which will cover the circumstances leading to the violence, has been given a four week deadline to submit its report.
