The Supreme Court will hear on October 6 a petition filed by Gitanjali J Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA). She has also sought his immediate release.

According to the Supreme Court’s cause list for October 6, the case will be taken up by a bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria.

Wangchuk was detained under the NSA two days after protests demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh. He was later shifted to Jodhpur Central Jail in Rajasthan for allegedly inciting violence during the September 24 unrest in Leh, which left four people dead and over 80 injured.
