It has been 17 years since the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, but the memories are still painful for many people. On 26 November 2008, ten terrorists from Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba came into Mumbai through the sea. They carried guns and moved around the city for four days, shooting people and creating panic.
By the time the attack ended, 166 people had lost their lives and more than 300 were injured. These days were some of the darkest days for Mumbai and India. Even today, the families who lost their loved ones still feel the pain, and those who survived cannot forget what they saw.
Nine terrorists were killed by the security forces. One terrorist, Ajmal Kasab, was caught alive. This was possible because Sub-Inspector Tukaram Omble showed great bravery and gave his life while capturing him. Kasab was later given the death sentence in 2010 and was hanged in 2012 in a high-security jail in Pune.
Even after so many years, 26/11 reminds us of the courage of our police and the strength of the people of Mumbai.
