India Rushes Aid to Quake-Hit Afghanistan;
 
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday expressed condolences over the tragic earthquake that struck Afghanistan’s Balkh, Samangan and Baghlan provinces, killing more than 20 people and leaving over 500 injured in the early hours of the day.
 
 
In a post on X, Jaishankar said he spoke to Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi to convey India’s sympathy and support to the affected families.
 
 
“Called FM Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi of Afghanistan this afternoon to convey condolences at the loss of lives in the earthquake that struck Balkh, Samangan and Baghlan provinces.
 
 
Indian relief material for the earthquake impacted communities is being handed over today. Further supplies of medicines to reach soon.
 
 
Discussed progress in our bilateral relationship since his visit. Welcomed the improving people-to-people contacts between India and Afghanistan.
 
Appreciated the exchange of views on the regional situation.” Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar wrote on X.
 
India has already dispatched relief supplies to assist those impacted by the earthquake, and more medical support is expected to reach soon.
