A United Nations report has revealed that the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as ISIS or Da’esh, was unable to carry out large-scale attacks in India. However, its handlers attempted to incite individual supporters in the country to launch lone-wolf attacks.
According to the report, the pro-ISIS media outlet Al-Jauhar Media actively spread anti-India propaganda through its publication Serat ul-Haq. The terror group has been trying to expand its influence despite setbacks.
ISIS is a terrorist organisation that seeks to establish a caliphate in West Asia. The report also warned about the security threat posed by Afghanistan, where over two dozen terrorist groups are active. Even though ISIS has lost territory and several top leaders, its presence in Afghanistan continues to create instability in the region, affecting Central Asia and neighbouring countries.
Security agencies remain on high alert to prevent any potential terror activities inspired by ISIS in India.
