Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Jammu Kashmir on April 19 has been postponed due to weather concerns. The Meteorological Department had predicted heavy rain in the region around that time, leading to the decision.
During his visit, PM was scheduled to launch the first-ever Vande Bharat Express connecting Katra to Baramulla during his visit. This train service is a big step toward connecting Kashmir to the Indian Railways network, something people have been waiting for a long time. On the inauguration day, two trains were planned—one from Baramulla to Katra and another back. A trial run on the Katra-Sangaldan section was successfully completed on Tuesday in the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail project.
Preparations, including security and arrangements for the events, were already underway. However, officials have said that fresh dates will be announced soon- possibly towards the end of April.
The new Vande Bharat train meant for the Katra-Baramulla route is specially built to handle extreme cold, with features that allow it to run in temperatures as low as -20°C.
