The whole village of Majra Bhakli in Haryana was filled with grief and pride on Friday as the mortal remains of Flight Lieutenant Siddharth Yadav were brought home for his final farewell. He lost his life when an Indian Air Force Jaguar aircraft crashed soon after takeoff on April 2 in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Siddharth was just 27 and had a bright future ahead. He had cleared the NDA exam in 2016 and after three years of tough training, he became a fighter pilot. He was promoted two years ago and was proudly serving the nation. His family has a strong military background—his father, Sushil Yadav, had also served in the Indian Air Force.
The aircraft took off from the Jamnagar base and crashed moments later. Siddharth was martyred on the spot, and his co-pilot Manoj Kumar Singh was seriously injured. Siddharth was the only son and had one younger sister.
His mortal remains first arrived at his house in Sector 18, Rewari, which his father had built especially for his son’s wedding. From there, the body was taken to his ancestral village for the final rites. Hundreds of people came to pay their respects, eyes filled with tears and hearts heavy with emotion.
Siddharth’s fiancee Saniya was inconsolable. She kept crying “Just show me his face once” and later broke down near the coffin saying “Baby you didn’t come to take me.. you promised you would.” The couple had gotten engaged on March 23 and were supposed to get married on November 2 but fate had other plans.
Siddharth’s mother fainted when she saw her son’s body. In a heart-touching moment, Air Force officers placed Siddharth’s cap on her head and gave her his photo as a mark of respect.
The entire village stood together in silence and sorrow, saluting a braveheart who left too soon while serving the nation.
