Following India’s precision strikes on terror camps under Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has intensified cross-border shelling, causing panic and destruction in several areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. So far, 15 civilians have been killed with 57 injured, as villages near the border continue to be targeted by heavy artillery and mortar shelling.

According to the Indian Army:

“During the night of May 7-8, Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked fire using small arms and artillery guns across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri and Akhnoor areas in J&K. The Indian Army responded proportionately.”

This escalation comes after the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, in which 26 tourists were killed. Since then, Pakistan has frequently fired small arms across the LoC, to which Indian forces have responded strongly.

After India carried out 'Operation Sindoor’—targeting nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir—the Pakistani Army launched one of the most intense artillery and mortar shelling attacks seen in recent years.

At least 15 people, including four children and a soldier, have lost their lives, and 57 others have been injured in the shelling in Poonch. Villages near the LoC in Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, and Kupwara bore the brunt of the attack.

Houses, vehicles, a Gurdwara, and other buildings were badly damaged. Hundreds of families were forced to flee or take shelter in underground bunkers as explosions shook the region through the night.

The Indian Army is keeping a close watch on the ceasefire violations by Pakistan and remains fully prepared for any further provocation.
