LG Jammu and Kashmir Sh. Manoj Sinha today performed the traditional Pratham Puja at the holy cave shrine of Baba Barfani, marking the ceremonial start of the annual sacred pilgrimage.
Sharing this on social media platform X, the Office of the LG J&K posted, @OfficeOfLGJandK
“Har Har Mahadev! Paid my obeisance to Baba Barfani and performed the ‘Pratham Puja’ at the Holy Cave, marking the ceremonial beginning of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. May Baba Amarnathji keep showering his divine blessings on all of us.”
This year, the 38 day long Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025 will officially begin on July 3 and conclude on August 9, for which both online and offline registrations have already begun. The holy yatra to the 3,880-meter-high cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas attracts lakhs of devotees each year, who undertake the challenging trek to seek blessings from the naturally formed ice Shivling of Lord Shiva.
Encouraging devotees to take part in the yatra in large numbers, the LG further urged:
“I would request all the devotees of Baba Barfani to visit in large numbers for the Holy Yatra & pray to Mahadev for progress of J&K and the nation. SASB & Admin have improved the pilgrims facilities. JKP, Army, CRPF, CAPFs have made foolproof security arrangements”
It’s also important to mention that the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 badly affected tourism in the area. After the attack, in which 26 innocent tourists were killed by terrorists, the number of visitors to Kashmir dropped sharply.
With the beginning of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the government is making a strong effort to encourage maximum participation of devotees. The aim is not only to ensure a successful pilgrimage but also to revive tourism in the Valley and restore the confidence of travellers in the safety and hospitality of Jammu and Kashmir.
