
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, who is on an official visit to China to attend the SCO Foreign Ministers Meeting, met Chinese President Xi Jinping along with his counterparts. He shared the development on X, Jaishankar said:
“Called on President Xi Jinping this morning in Beijing along with my fellow SCO Foreign Ministers. Conveyed the greetings of President Droupadi Murmu & Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Apprised President Xi of the recent development of our bilateral ties. Value the guidance of our leaders in that regard.”
This is Jaishankar’s first visit to China since ties between the two countries worsened after the deadly clash in Galwan Valley in 2020, the worst border clash which led to loss of lives on both sides.
On Monday, Jaishankar met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and said that both countries need to look ahead and work towards a stable and positive relationship. His visit comes after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also visited China last month for SCO meetings.
