In a recent development, many social media accounts of Pakistani actors and cricketers have once again been blocked in India. This comes after a brief period when some of these accounts were accessible to Indian users, which caused quite a stir on social media.
On Wednesday, many Indian users noticed that they could view the Instagram accounts of certain Pakistani celebrities. However, this was short-lived, as by Thursday morning, these accounts were once again restricted in India. When users tried to access them, they were met with a message saying, "Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content."
Interestingly, while the Instagram accounts are blocked, the YouTube channels of cricketers like Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar, as well as entertainment channels like Green TV, are still available for viewing in India.
This situation has sparked outrage among many Indian users who feel that such content should not be tolerated. Blocking these accounts is seen as a way to protect our national feelings and ensure social media is free from harmful messages.
India had blocked the social media accounts of several Pakistani actors and cricketers after they spewed venom and shared anti-India posts following Operation Sindoor—a military response launched by India on May 7 in retaliation to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that took 26 lives. The operation triggered a high intensity military standoff between India and Pakistan, which continued for nearly four days.
