In a powerful message, the leaders of BRICS nations condemned the horrific terrorist attack that took place in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, 2025. The attack claimed the lives of 26 people and left many more injured.
In their 17th BRICS Summit Joint Declaration, the member nations: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, stated:
“We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025, during which 26 people were killed and many more injured. We reaffirm our commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including the cross-border movement of terrorists, terrorism financing and safe havens. We reiterate that terrorism should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group and that all those involved in terrorist activities and their support must be held accountable and brought to justice in accordance with relevant national and international law. We urge to ensure zero tolerance for terrorism and reject double standards in countering terrorism.”
This strong statement comes as the world increasingly agrees on the need to fight terrorism together and break the networks that support it. India had earlier raised the issue globally, pointing to Pakistan’s support for terrorists. With this joint condemnation, BRICS has backed India’s concerns and emphasised the need for united global action.
