
14 persons lost their lives and over 100 got injured after police opened fire during violent protests in Kathmandu on Monday. Thousands of people, mainly from Generation Z, were protesting against corruption and the government’s ban on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms.
The protests turned violent after clashes broke out between protesters and security forces. Police opened fire to disperse the crowd, leaving 14 people dead and more than 100 injured, according to reports.
Protesters also stormed the area near the Parliament and vandalised its main gate while raising slogans against the government’s decision.
In response to the growing crisis, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has called an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers and the National Security Council at his residence in Baluwatar at 6 pm today.
The government’s move to ban social media has triggered widespread anger across Nepal, with citizens calling it an attack on freedom of speech and expression.
