An audio clip, said to be of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, has appeared online, in which he claims that a large number of suicide bombers are ready to carry out attacks at any time.
However, the exact date and authenticity of the audio message could not be independently verified.
In the clip, Masood Azhar is heard saying that his terror group has thousands of suicide bombers. He claims that many of them keep requesting permission to cross over and carry out attacks. He also says that if the real number is made public, it would shock the world’s media.
Azhar describes these people as highly motivated and ready to die for what he calls their cause.
Masood Azhar is a UN designated terrorist. He has long been accused of planning terror attacks against India while operating from Pakistan. JeM is a banned terror organisation and has been involved in several deadly attacks in the past,
including the attack on Parliament in 2001 and the Mumbai attacks in 2008.
The audio message comes months after Indian forces carried out strikes on Jaish-e-Mohammed facilities in Pakistan, including the group's headquarters in Bahawalpur.
Reports had said that several of Azhar's close relatives were among those killed in the strikes.
