Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif landed himself in an unexpected situation after proudly attending the inauguration of a Pizza Hut–branded outlet in Sialkot Cantonment. Photos and videos showed him cutting the ribbon, smiling for cameras, and receiving applause, as if unveiling a major national security project.

However, the celebration did not last long. Pizza Hut Pakistan later made it clear that the outlet was fake.

“Pizza Hut Pakistan informs our valued customers that an unauthorised outlet falsely using the Pizza Hut name and branding has recently opened in Sialkot Cantonment,”

The company further said, “This outlet is not associated with Pizza Hut Pakistan, or Yum! Brands. It does not follow Pizza Hut International recipes, quality protocols, food safety and operational standards. We have formally filed a complaint with the relevant authorities to stop the misuse of our trademark and ensure immediate action.”

After this statement, social media exploded with jokes, memes, and sharp comments. Many users questioned how the Defence Minister of a nuclear-armed country ended up inaugurating what turned out to be a fake pizza shop.

Since Army Chief Asim Munir was elevated to Field Marshal, he is said to have undeclaredly taken over the role of Pakistan’s Defence Minister as well. In this setup, Khawaja Asif is believed to be left with no real work, apart from attending ceremonial events and cutting ribbons; even at fake Pizza Hut outlets.

“As real defence matters are already being handled elsewhere, the declared Defence Minister has been reduced to cutting ribbons; even if the ribbons belong to fake Pizza Hut outlets,” posted one user online.
