Udhampur Encounter

Two terrorists were killed in an encounter during a joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army and CRPF in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district, officials said on Wednesday.

The encounter, which had entered its second day, took place after security forces launched a coordinated operation against Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists hiding inside a natural cave.

Officials said there was no exchange of fire during the night as forces maintained a tight cordon around the area. Additional troops were deployed to prevent any escape.

The terrorists were traced on Tuesday around 4 pm in the forest area of Basantgarh during a joint search operation. After being spotted inside the cave, a fierce gunfight broke out and lasted for more than an hour.

Search operations are still underway in the area to ensure there is no remaining threat.
