India has sealed a deal with the United States to procure Javelin anti-tank guided missile systems to further strengthen the combat capabilities of the Indian Army.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor announced the development in a post on X, highlighting the growing defence ties between the two countries.

“BIG news! India plans to buy the battle-tested Javelin anti-tank system. Just as @secwar highlighted at the May 2026 Shangri-La Dialogue, this is a great step forward in the U.S.-India defense relationship and opens the door to co-production possibilities. The engagement between our two nations is at record high levels!”

The Javelin is an advanced, medium-range, fire and forget anti-tank guided missile system. It is used by the US Army, US Marine Corps and several other countries.

The system is designed to engage a wide range of targets, including armoured vehicles and fortified positions, giving troops an effective weapon against heavily protected targets.

The Javelin system is produced by the Javelin Joint Venture, a partnership between RTX and Lockheed Martin.
