A CBI court here has issued summons to Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, to appear before it on July 15 in a case related to her abduction in 1989, officials said on Friday.
Rubaiya Sayeed is the younger sister of former CM of J&K Mehbooba Mufti, was kidnapped by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front(JKLF) from Nowgam in Kashmir on December 8, 1989.
As per CBI, Rubaiya was kidnapped by JKLF to pressurise the govt. for the release of five terrorists. Yasin Malik has been the main accused behind kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed to secure release of five JKLF terrorists. Ultimately, Rubaiya Sayeed was released on 13 December 1989.
This is the first time that Rubaiya Sayeed has been asked to appear in the case. Rubaiya Sayeed, who stays in Tamil Nadu, is listed as a prosecution witness by the CBI which took over the investigations into the case in early 1990. Pertinent to mention here that Yasin Malik has been awarded life in Jail by NIA Court in terror funding case and he is also the main accused in Rubaiya Sayeed kidnapping case.
